Personally, I'd re-write the entire site starting fresh.

You can use csv files to transfer any data that might be compatible or write your own sql scripts.

Having done this numerous times, it's really not that onerous a task.

I guess my first question would be, how do I know the DB schema I'm trying to match?

Do you do a blank install of the new XOOPS version and then massage the old schema into the new schema?

My biggest concern is getting the NewBB and User data converted.

Thanks,
Bryan

Ahh... welcome to the world of programming.

You'll have to dissect both DBs and perform a mapping. I can pretty much guarantee that your Forums will be all but impossible to convert. The DB on the XOOPs side has changed A LOT since v1.

You might be better off just srchiving the old Forums and starting over. Next time, I'd recommend keeping things a bit more current than the every 4 year upgrade.

rabideau

Sometimes its not so easy, On my old host I wasnt able to upgrade to XOOPS 2 because of php and MySQL versions. My old hosts took years to upgrade it and by the time that they did upgrading would have been a nightmare.

So it isnt always as easy as you think.

Although, I should have threatened them with moving to another host if they didnt upgrade but I didnt.

And even when they did upgrade they completely mucked it up and they still havent fixed it as far as I know. So I eventually moved hosts.
