I have pages installed. Ok. But I really would like to manipulate my menu beyond that.

1. I would like to insert a link to a static page and that link must be one of the ordinary menu items.

2. Also, I would like to style the menu a bit.

3. I would like to make my own custom header. How to do that?

For 1 you can use Multimenu module or edit main menu template.

For 2 you can use multimenu and edit his css file, edit mainmenu template or edit theme style.css file for mainmenu class

For 3 if I understand you corect, you need to edit your theme.html file
..
