Firstly, I'd love to know what this site uses to display its news on the main page, because I can see it before I even log in.

The problem, I installed smart section, latest version, and no matter what I tweak, it will NOT display the spotlighted news item to users before they log in, after they do, its fine, works a charm, but before, arghhhh...

what am I doing wrong, or is this a known bug? I want people to know why they cant log in, the site is undergoing major changes, till then, no one can sign in, menaing, everyone is an anonymous user!

Help would be very much appreciated.

OH, I tweaked EVERYTHING... it SHOULD work.... but doesnt.

First thought: give anonymous users access to the block you want them to see.

(I think I tweaked everything on a regular basis, but sometimes overlook something very obvious
)

no, sorry, did that, AND gave then access in the module permissions AND in the story itself....

for the life of me, I cannot figure this out. I'm convinced either I'm stupid, which I'm not, or theres a bug. Thats why I'm asking here.

oh well.... 2:37am and I'm off to bed... maybe someone has the answer...... I hope.

:(

You mean that you have set permissions under "Groups" in system admin?

Under GROUPS in the admin section, made it visible to anon users, AND the same in the module... theres a permissions and make visible option in there as well, AND... in the category for the story... AND in the story itself....

All that to make it visible for one group tends to mean a bug will creep in somewhere, maybe it could be made more simple....

I'm 99.9% sure I did everything I was supposed to, to make it visible, and even made it identical to the registered users option which IS visible...

I have had to install NEWS as well, JUST FOR THE ANON USERS... and a duplicate of the story... and the anon users can see it...

But I dont really want two modules to do the same job, NOR do I want to post the same story twice!

Seems, for now, I am stuck with having two modules... and NO, I dont want to JUST have "news" becasue I like the story being "there" for people to see, the spotlight function, whereas NEWS makes you click on a link...
