i see this wonderful topic in the core development forum:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1621657&forum_id=347994

i had it in my mind for some month.
IMHO its a very needed feature for any open source project.
so end users can be informed of any new VERY STABLE release like 2.0.16

also honestly i post it here because now its 2 weeks that i cant login in sf.net
it seems my ISP ban all https pages except a few.

An extremely reputable feature to have.

Every other major cms has it, why shouldn't XOOPS.

No matter the idea for a new feature, this shouldn't have to be an argument to implement it in XOOPS, ever. XOOPS isn't all the other CMS'es, nor does it aspire to be. A feature should be implemented in XOOPS for many reasons, but these should be 'XOOPS reasons'.

Just my opinion tho

Yes.
i totally agreed with Herko and it must be upon XOOPS reasons.
and it must tight by rules like:

- it must active just for most stable releases.( i think the "most stable" rank is deserve for a release that at least has a 2 month background of stability)

- end users could enable and disable that easily by a simple click

- more? from you

Thanks for the feedback

Although it's my suggestion - it's an idea that i've seen in a few modules .. including extGallery (http://www.zoullou.net) - and I thought it was something that would alert people still using past releases (such as 2.0.13.2) to update.

I don't think that it should appear as soon as an RC or Beta appears - but only when a release is marked as Stable.

I disagree Herko.

XOOPS reasons don't always reflect XOOPSers reasons.

(I hate to bring up the recent contest, but I do feel its applicable.)

There are basic features that people expect to see. I feel this is one of them. Right alongside making xoops.org easier to navigate and less cluttered.

Its a step to guiding users to the most recent stable versions. Its one of those things that show people that we are attempting to help them in every way possible. Its a link between XOOPS and every XOOPS Powered site.

Its all about making life easier IMHO.

Forget about "who had it first"

The important thing is - as Biteronboard says - is making it helpful for the users
