I would like the user logging in, if possible, to be presented initially, instead of
a default blank page, with the CBB forums module. Is this possible, and is it also possible with the News module?

thanks very much. (reviewed the FAQ and docs and am a bit lost)

Yes... Just go to System Admin => Preferences and about one quarter of the way from the top you'll see "Module for your start page" - select CBB (or News) then save the page (select Go! button at the bottom of the page).
