Ok, here is my stupid question of the day. I have been using XOOPS Version 2.2.4 for about I don't know, six months or better, more or less. But I see XOOPS Version 2.0.1.4 has been released on 6/26/06? I'm confused. 2014 is an updated version of 2013 which I started out on a year ago. I don't understand why 2014 is being called the "Newest" version of xoops, can someone explain this to me?

This has been explained before - but here we go again.

The next "main" version of Xoops, which is currently under development, is 2.3.

However, 2.2.x has a number of problems, and due to the way it was coded, broke some "legacy" code from the previous 2.0.x versions.

So 2.0.14 goes back a step. It adds some new features from the new and coming release of 2.3 - but builds on the "solid" code of the more established release.

It also gives developers a chance to use some of the features that will appear in the later release of 2.3.

2.2.x isnt abandoned as such, and there should be a maintenance (sorry can't spell ) release in the very near future to sort a few issues out. (2.2.5 ?)

Anyway - users of 2.0.14 will be able to upgrade easily to 2.3 when its completed. But because of the changes made to 2.2 - users of this will have to wait until the NEXT release of 2.4 instead.

Upgrade path image:

2.0.x --> 2.0.14 --> 2.3 --> 2.4

2.2.x ------------------> 2.4

Hope that makes sense

There used to be a page that explained all this (I know cos I wrote it), but that has disappeared. Maybe its a good idea to add it to the FAQ or somewhere else where it can be found?
