Hi - I tarred up the working XOOPS install, did a backup of the databases, untarred the XOOPS install on the new server, imported the database structure from the backup and all it will display to me is a blank window. When I mess with the username and password in mainfile.php it reacts to my changes.

Paths are correct, MySQL username and passwords are correct. Is there something (rights related) that I may be missing?

have you checked thar PHP and MySQL is working perfectly in your new server??? ..

try to put the installation folder in the server... and in your browser put http://www.yoursite.com/install... if nothing happens it could be the PHP... if you get at the database conection and then the blank page apears... is a problem between the PHP and the MySQL maybe the php.ini configuration.

Dont worry the "re-installation" will not kill your old site...

Also check the permissions... all redeable by the server... and the common writeable permisions to the specifics files.

Let us know more about... luck!

I may be stating the obvious but make sure you clear your /cache and /templates_c directories (except for the index.html files).

Howdy -

Thanks for the replies. I'm so far not successful in getting this to work. I do know a bit more however.

Here's what I've tried.

1. Tar up the source, mysqldump the data, restore both onto a new server. Result: blank screen. When replacing the install directory, the install process comes up and takes you through everything just fine.

2. Completely re-install the system on the new server, everything works fine except I don't have any of my old data. (though I was able to import the user data.

3. tar up the source, untar it on the new server, manually create the database on the new server then use the MySQL migration utility to export/import the data from the old server to the new server. Migration completes successfully but the result again is: mostly blank screen - this time I do get the header and footer to display but nothing else.

Also, I had NOT dumped the cache and templates_c folders. I did this and didn't get any different results.

My assumption at this point is it's a data issue of some sort.

Server(s) Info:

OLD SERVER: (FROM PHPINFO)
PHP Version: 4.3.3
Apache Version: 1.3.28
MySQL Client API version: 4.0.15a

NEW SERVER: (FROM PHPINFO)
PHP Version: 5.1.4
Apache Version: 2.2.2
Client API version: 5.0.22

I've used this same process with other programs (even another XOOPS site) and it's worked great. I'm not sure what may be taking place with this one. Luckily this site is not heavily used and I can basically start from scratch with it at this point.

That's my update

By the way - I do love XOOPS - it's a great system!

Ron
