I'm using the xmspotlight with XOOPS 2.0.14 and news 1.44.

As it is, you can only display the latest news for one category. What I want to do is have the latest news be displayed for each category and subcategory.

Ex:
Category - Microsoft
Subcategory - Windows XP
Subcategory - Windows 2000
Subcategory - Windows 2003

Category - Novell
Subcategory - GroupWise
Subcategory - NetWare
Subcategory - ZenWorks

So, with the current way, in order to display the latest articles, you would need to set the preference -> News Spotlight #8 "How Many Items Appear In The News Spotlight Block"

What I want to do is have preference -> News Spotlight #2 "How Many Items Appear In The News Spotlight Block" setting and have all subcategory articles displayed.

Anyone know how to do this?

interesting idea..

something like?.

select categories to show
[=Category Microsoft=]  [] show subcategories
-[add more..]

[=
Category Novell=]   [/checkedshow subcategories
-[GroupWise]
-[
NetWare]
-[
add more..]
** or
should it automatically look in the subcategories and then display the latest.

heres a link to some screen shots of the current version . XM-Spotlight beta2

in the 'XM-Spotlight: News Block Admin Section' image. there is a space next to categories where i was thinking of ideas to put in.

Nice screenshots with the mouse over feauture . I'll keep the link registered for the modules article that's being written. I will surely have to go forum hunting to not lose useful information like this.

Nice Flickr feauture, it would make module tutorials more interactive.

Yes, there is an article being built at the documenation section [see here], it started as my initiative, Jensclass has done some writing too, other's have contributed with other information at [this forum here]. I found Solo71's Top 30 very interesting, will be passing much of that information to the article; if I get my timing straight I'll be working this more by the weekend.

This could be a nice starting point for the making of new module documentation because if you go to http://xoopsdocs.net, the official module documentation is needing some kind of update, and it seems to be that lots of useful information can be rescued from the forums and put in a more accessible place.
