Can someone please link me to the one I should download first so i can begin making my site

Oh, and btw, the programs i need to download(apache, PHP, and My SQL) these are free and won't hurt my beautiful Windows XP, right?

For XAMPP, this package will have apache, php MySQL all bundled.

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/xoops/xoops-2.0.13.2.zip?download
For XOOPS.

Enjoy.

site maker option

???

If you want to start experimenting locally I can recommend XAMPP, which is an ALL-ONE-PACKAGE.

I don't think the software will harm your XP - it did not harm my WIN 2000 PRO - but you get addicted to this XOOPS-stuff.

EDIT: I was too slow - getting old I think

No, XAMPP installs a webserver on your computer, you have to download and install the XOOPS-package on your newly installed local webserver as well.

So pretty much downloading it will get me a webserver, then download XOOPS onto it. How do I do that?

And, after I do all that, I need to get a host and domain, right?

Finally, how do i install the thing so I can begin working on my site?

Perhaps the following will help shed some light on XOOPS and working will standalone servers.

Links:
XOOPS for Dummies (by JackJ) - A straight forward beginners guide on how to start working with XOOPS.

Using XSAS to develop multiple XOOPS sites locally - A guide on how to run several instances of XOOPS on your home computer. More advanced, but there are some concepts that will help you understand standalone servers better.

All About XOOPS - A basic introduction to what XOOPS is.

Do you want to set up a site on the internet?

YES? Then look for a hoster which offers a hosting package with PHP and MySQL (obey the XOOPS requirements for that), download XOOPS 2.0.13.2 from here, upload the content of folder html to your new site, make the CHMODs and then install XOOPS.

That's all you need!

Ok, so download XAMPPS, then install locally? #What does locally do?
