Create a PDF from a News Article

Hi Everyone

My question relates to the ability to create a PDF from a News Article. I see this option available on this site.

My web project involves the distribution of rather large documents and this feature would be of great assistance to my audience.

Hi

You could update your news module - which one are you using?

The second thing you fan do is get cute pdf writer (free) and convert your docs to make them available as downloads using smart downloads. You will however need to check on the file size limitations with your server...I am restricted to 5 MB and can;t seem to work it higher.

I have been using News 1.1. This morning I downloaded and updated to News 1.44 (which according to the notes has the PDF feature built in).

However, I have had some difficulty in doing the upgrade to the site. I have followed the steps in the UPGRADE file, with the exception of this:

Quote:
Launch the following script at least one time :
http://www.example.com/modules/news/admin/upgrade.php
To be able to launch it, YOU MUST BE AN ADMIN OF THE NEWS MODULE
Once this script has been launched, you can remove it but it's not "vital"


I have found the file upgrade.php however an unclear as to what the author means by 'launch'.

Your assistance is appreciated.

let's see if you did these steps:

You ftp'd the files to your public html/modules/news folder.

you went to your site admin and clicked on 'modules' in the site admin list.

You found the news module and pressed 'update'?

Check that you also update the templates from your site admin.

Once you have done all this you should be able to use the module...
If you are unsure the steps are clear in the tutorials on john seymors site here

If you are the site admin and have always had webmaster access rights to news module you shouldn't have a problem.

if you are still stuck please tell us which version of XOOPS etc you have.
