Do you have PHP? 5.1.2
Do you have SQL? MySQL 4.1.14-standard
Apache/ISS/Other? 1.3.33 (Unix)
Xoops? 2.0.13.2
Do you have a DB, with correct name and pass. Yes
Register Globals, on/off? I don't know what that means!
Xoops URL? http://www.mctimoneystudents.z42.us
Xoops Path? /home/mctimstu/public_html
Can you see install.php? Yes
Can you see index.php? Yes

I get the following messages when trying to save the configuration data:
File ../mainfile.php overwritten by ../mainfile.dist.php.
Failed writing constant /home/mctimstu/public_html.
Failed writing constant http://www.mctimoneystudents.z42.us.
Failed writing constant mysql.
Failed writing constant xoops.
Failed writing constant localhost.
Failed writing constant *hidden*.
Failed writing constant *hidden*.
Failed writing constant "hidden*.
Failed writing constant 0.
Failed writing constant 1.
Failed writing constant 2.
Failed writing constant 3.
Failed writing constant 1.

(Obviously the *hidden* bits I have hidden, that isn't the actual text).

I ensured that all the necessary directories and mainfile.php file had the correct permissions.

Any help as to where to start looking would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Just a shot in the dark here:

Afer you finished the installation did you remove the INSTALL folder from your root? And reset the permissions of the mainfile.php to 444 ?

If so, then you may want to uninstall and get rid of everything you did and then do a fresh install.

Unfortunately it whilst performing the install that the failure happens. I have installed a number of XOOPS sites before, and this is the first time that I've haad this problem. It looks likes a protection problem with a file, but the mainfile.php and mainfile.dist.php file are set up with the correct protections, so I'm a bit stumped.
