I am currently running 2.0.13.1 and I would like to upgrade to the most current/stable version of xoops. Where do I start, and what do I do?

I never had to manually upgrade before because my past web hosts had fantastico, but my current host does not.

PS: I need to upgrade because a few of the modules that I installed are not working on my current version like Liase, and net2ftp

you should download the upgrade package from this site and follow the included instructions.

make sure to back up your database and files before trying to upgrade because my first few attempts completely messed my site up.

Here's a few pointers that aren't included in the instructions. I'm not sure which one caused the upgrade to finally work but it couldn't hurt to do them anyways...

1) upgrade to version 2.0.13.2 before attempting to upgrade to 2.2.3a
2) disable all modules you've added to the site
3) do not turn your site off to visitors
4) disable gzip compression if you have it on

I don't think I will upgrade to 2.2.3a for a while?
