I've recently installed XOOPS 2.2. Before doing much, I tried to change the administrator's password. It always returned "Error wrong password" after supplying the old, new, and verified new passwords. I've tried this numerous times typing very slowly and carefully.

After a while I thought maybe it was unique to an administrator account. So, I create a simple registered user account. Repeated attempts have yielded the same result.

Has anyone else experienced this problem in v2.2 with changing passwords? Have I missed a setting?

I've noticed a couple of posts concerning granting webmasters permission to edit users in the Users-->Groups section. It's not on by default, but one fellow said he kept turning it on, only to find it turned itself off again. Don't know if his problem has been solved yet, but you might want to check webmaster permissions again.

Hope it helps.
