I'm playing a bit with the new extended profiles module. The system I'm currently configuring DO NOT HAVE the PM module installed, so, all notifications must be via email. About this I have two problems:

First, after registration a new user always have the notification sistem set to "disabled".

Second, if I let them configure this value themselves, they still get the "Private Message" option.

The best solution can be to set the notification to "email" by default for any new user. How can I do this?

Well, I finally changed this directly from the database, but seems odd that you can't edit it form the admin interface.

it would be in the template for that module, or the backend files.

You would alter the code to a '1' instead of a zero or use the statement around that particular option in the form.

(either way, it's still not in the admin area )

Mmmm thats another option, but I think is better to change it directly in the database, because the table already have a "default value" cell there. That's way feels odd to me that this option can't be changed from admin. The module seems prepared to handle this.
