SMTP Error: Could not authenticate

Due to some reason, I can only use SMTP to send mail in the current server. But neither SMTP nor SMTPAuth can work. The returned error info is:

Errors
SMTP Error: Could not authenticate
Could not send mail to xxx.

Sending message completed.

The version of XOOPS is XOOPS 2.0.13. I survey lots of kind of problems but still haven't got any clue. I really really need your help!!

Try reading this. I had a similar problem and it's discussed in the thread. Read it all through, and if it doesn't help by the time you get to the end, read the hyperlink about half way through it which takes you to a bigger thread (about 30 posts or so) with other similar problems discussed by users.

It's very frustrating, but is likely to be related to your web host.
