I wonder if anyone can advise me as to the best module for the following:-

About 10 different articles sections

One or two will be static articles that will be uploaded by myself and no comments etc can be added

about 8 will need to be where site members can upload articles and other members can comment

Any ideas?

Oh i also need to know which is the best chat rooms module to use .. need about 5 rooms

Annie

For what you want to accomplish, I would try either the wf-section (new one due out soon) or the smart section module (new 2.2 compatible version due out soon). As far as a chat room program, I think flashchat is hands down the best even though it cost 5 dollars.

You can find and preview it at Tufat.com

HTH. (And keep them questions coming)

Yep and that's how we learn - by asking questions and getting answers and trying stuff out.

I'll be asking for a long, long time yet

And a big thanks to everyone who has taken the time to answer my questions. I have to say that on the whole I looooooove XOOPS - you have an amazing community here too. The only thing I've found disappointing is the lack of documentation for modules and no or very few demo's.

When I was looking round for a system for my site I have to admit that if it hadn't been for a friend who uses XOOPS I would have gone elsewhere. Simply because when I was searching, other systems had more documentation of modules and demos.

So all you module developers need to 'showcase' your products so that we beginners can at least get an idea of what each module does and is capable of. The technical jargon is just no good to us beginners - we don't understand the stuff.

I will check out those modules jdseymour - thanks !!

See this News Item for a site that has a way to demo most all popular modules.

I had a similar problem and found that the AMS module folder needs to be named "AMS" all caps for it to show up in the admin->modules page.

Did you get it working and are you using it now? If not what are you using

Yes I had to do the same to get the archive of AMS working. Once changed it worked properly.
