I have to leave GoDaddy because they don't support fsockopen. I chose Surpass after reading about it here. I'm in the middle of migrating my site, using the site migration FAQ as my guide, and have a couple questions.

What's the value of XOOPS_ROOT_PATH?

Since I don't want to shut down my current site on GoDaddy until the new one is fully up and running, and they provide a temporary path to my new site, can I use that temporary IP address they gave me for the XOOPS_URL? e.g. 'http://72.29.12.4/~mobilef'

I've already got a support ticket and thread going with Surpass, but I'll ask this here in case anyone wants to comment. Any tips on setting up database users? I'm having issues with their cPanel/MySQL Administration and phpMyAdmin.

I _was_ able to import my database fine, but I don't have access to it. Through the cPanel/MySQL page I created the database, a user, and associated the user with the database. But then when I hit the phpMyAdmin link, it logs on as a default user like 'myfooUser@localhost'. This default user has no preferences and doesn't show up in the cPanel/MySQL Admin page, so I can't give it prefs. I don't understand how I was able to import the database with no prefs, but it did upload.

Thanks

Brian

Afraid, I cant help you with SQL stuff but I can tell you you can use the temp IP adress surpass gives you before your site resolves to thier DNS servers. I was able to log into cpanel, install XOOPS in fantastico and log into XOOPS before my domain had resolved, you can FTP too.

I can honestly say you wont regret moving to surpass, I've been with them for a year and never had many problems and any probs i've had have been fixed ASAP, they are a great host.

I would highly recommend against using Fantastico. They are usually a few versions behind and may cause problems.

You need to edit the config file for phpmyadmin and set the user or set it to http instead of config.

Once you've uploaded all the files from your godaddy host to the surpass host, you'll need to modify the mainfile.php with the new settings.

XOOPS_ROOT_PATH = /home/mobilef/public_html/FOLDER_IF_ANY/

XOOPS_URL =http://YOUR URL/ or 'http://72.29.12.4/~mobilef' for temp use

And enter the Database information in the proper place in mainfile.php

Process the DNS change, I would suggest to close the godaddy site and tell the users site will resolve to the new host within 24hrs or so. Update the latest DB and your off. Since not all DNS servers will upate their info at the same time, some users will take longer than others to see the site. I usually was able to access my site on changes within 4-5 hours. The main point here is not to miss any posts in forums or comments between sites.
