Okay I uploaded and installed xoopsgallery and then uploaded netpbm in binary mode but the "Check NetPBM" feature says

Checking /usr/bin/giftopnm
Error! (File /usr/bin/giftopnm does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/jpegtopnm
Error! (File /usr/bin/jpegtopnm does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/pngtopnm
Error! (File /usr/bin/pngtopnm does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/pnmcut
Error! (File /usr/bin/pnmcut does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/pnmfile
Error! (File /usr/bin/pnmfile does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/pnmflip
Error! (File /usr/bin/pnmflip does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/pnmrotate
Error! (File /usr/bin/pnmrotate does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/pnmscale
Error! (File /usr/bin/pnmscale does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/pnmtopng
Error! (File /usr/bin/pnmtopng does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/ppmquant
Error! (File /usr/bin/ppmquant does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/ppmtogif
Error! (File /usr/bin/ppmtogif does not exist.)

Checking /usr/bin/ppmtojpeg
Error! (File /usr/bin/ppmtojpeg does not exist.)

okay so it doesn't exist... does that mean I uploaded netpbm to the wrong location? Just where is /usr/bin anyway? I can't see it via ftp and I do not have shell access.

I have read and read and read instructions on how to install netpbm but I need the instructions in very simple step by step instructions that don't assume I know what /usr/bin is and where to find it. I read that netpbm is easy to to install but I am very lost.

Thanks, Warren

I usually upload the folder netpbm to the root of my site.

You need to mark each file as "executable" on your server.

Another problem I had was "pnmtojpeg: No such file or directory" when I would upload images.

Solution:
Link Here

Quote:
In version 9.19 of NetPBM, they changed the name of the ppmtojpeg binary to pnmtojpeg. It's the same binary and serves the same purpose, but it's got a different name. The precompiled binaries provided on the Gallery download page come with ppmtojpeg . The newer stuff that you might get comes with pnmtojpeg . Gallery tries really hard to figure out which one you have available and use it. However, security restrictions can make it impossible for us to tell for sure. So, it's possible that you have one version of the binary and Gallery expects the other. There are several easy solutions (you only need to do one of these):

Copy ppmtojpeg to pnmtojpeg (or vice versa, as the case may be).

Edit your config.php and change $gallery->app->pnmtojpeg to "ppmtojpeg" (or "pnmtojpeg", whichever you have).

Upgrade to Gallery v1.3.4 which lets you specify which one you have in the config wizard.

Hope that helps.

Hi thanks for your help.

I uploaded it to the same place as you suggested and changed permissions to 755 ..is that what you meant by marking the files as "executable"?

I did this and still receive the same error?

Anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks,Warren

okay put a new folder called "bin" in my root directory... then uploaded all the files in binary mode to "bin" and then changed permissions to 755 and I still get a message saying they don't exist... I can't figure out why.

Anybody see something I am missing?

Cheers, Warren

P.S Also, I changed the "Path to NetPBM" to "/bin"..
still no luck!

The solution seemed to be

download
netpbm1.1-gallery1.0-linux2.2-redhat6.2-intel.tgz
from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=7130

Upload the NetPBM dir/files via FTP client (in binary mode) and CHMOD the directory and all the files in that directory with the following permissions: 755.

The keys to the above are
1. "binary mode" FTP upload
2. 755 permissions on the binary (executable) files
3. perhaps using an older version of NetPBM

Solved? If so, glad it all worked out for you. It is kind of a pain to setup.

Well not really solved. It worked but the drop down menu's for photos would drop down but wouldn't perform the function I was asking it to. In fact if I chose an option it would just revert back to the default option. Perhaps this is because I am using an older version of netpbm.
