I have the default home page set up to be Headlines but I want to have a block with an article on top of that. So I set news up with a weight of 1 (and headlines as 2) and checked off the same block (center). But I end up having only the news feed and nothing else. I then got a story on top of the news feed for the home page but only when logged on to admin???? No idea what I did but when I log out the story disappears, and I can't even find the story to edit it.

could be a setting prob. you can go to System Admin -> Groups -> Modify Guests, see if the block is being configured properly.
