I would like for my users to upload an avatar image that is up to 300 pixels wide. But this shows up in the forum, blogs and pm this way as well, which really screws up the layout of the whole site. I am not afraid to dive into the code to add an image size if it is possible. (This is php I can't imagine its not!)

My question is:

Can someone please assist me with limiting the size of the avatars in the forum, blogs and pm.

Under the System-->Preferences--->User Settings

Avatar image max width (pixel)
Avatar image max height (pixel)
Avatar image max filesize (byte)

By default mine are set to 80x80 sizes.

Thank you Lance, but that is not really the answer I am looking for.

If I change the image size there then the profile pic is just way to small. I want a large profile photo and a small avatar everywhere else. I know this has to be possible.

Unfortunately, what you are asking will demand some core files changes. Most people shy away from that. Sorry I can't help any further, my coding knowledge is nill.

Cheers.

i think i understand what ur wanting, however i can't tell you how to..

but i do understand that there is a hell of a lot of confusion of what an avatar actually is..

avatars and photo's are completely different.. i had this on myold site, using x-ipbm module which has avatar uploads and also allows a personal photo on the profile page..

an avatar is just that.. a picture for the usewr to use in forums etc.. and really shouldn't be used for posting personal photo's of oneself.. i had to keep telling my members that.. (i really wouldn't want my forums full of photo's of highish quality and filesizes as it would dramatically increase page loading times).

So i think a better route to take, would be to suggest a new feature for the next version of xoops, ie.. can we have a personal photo facility for users profiles.. and that photo only appear on the profile or wherever.. and that would then keep avatars for their proper usage..

Thank you for you help guys.... but I just can't believe it is that hard to modify. I am still a little new to the coding world, but I have seen this done with other sites.

Basically the user uploads a large image for their profile. The code resizes the image on the rest of the site. Like I said I am not afraid to get into the core to make modifications. I just need to know where and with what code.

You realize XOOPS is already doing this in the new user block right?? My profile pic is resized to this tiny little pic. That has to be usuable elsewhere throughout the code!

Do XOOPS developers actually read these forum or just all us noobs??

This was horribly easy to do once I realised I can add a set width to the image tags. I found out that I have to do it all over the entire site though. I have hacked the crap out of xoops. Forget about upgrading.
