I got this message, what do I do? My site is down and I have no idea what is wrong.

either your MySQL server is not functioning (check with phpmyadmin or something to see if it's just the database or not), 2ndly check xoops_root/mainfile.php and check that u have the correct settings for dbhost, dbuname & dbpassword if these are wrong just edit them with your MySQL credentials
