Although i love XOOPS in general I find the mylinks module way too cumbersome for a large link directory project.
Does anyone have any other ideas about how to manage links more effectively and in a more easily navigated way.

Currently on my main website Anni's Aussi Links I am using wf sections 1.01 to manage my links. I have another website where I have installed wf-sections beta 2.07 and have been playing with this.

I have posted on the wf-projests website here my ideas for what I want to do.

If anyone knows how to make a mod that will do this or knows of some other mod or script that can be used please let me know.
To maintain friendliness for search engines it is very important to me that the actual url appears in the first level of query so that there are no redirects involved such as in mylinks. What I mean by this is that when you navigate to a description of a link in mylinks and hover above the link name it does not show the actual url address of the site it shows the id of the link in the database which then redirects the browser to the url.

Hope this is not too much for someone to help with.
Thanks in advance.

Any help here please. I would prefer to be able to use a XOOPS mod than have to install a 3rd party script

Re:Link Indexer

This is a major problem with XOOPS and link exchange.
I have set up many XOOPS sites for link exchange,
hopeing to be propled higher into the google search listings.
I've never had much luck with other sites because of the way
xoops sets up these links. Other webmasters avoid link exchange
with my XOOPS sites like the plague. The links have no value
whatsoever to other sites in any link exchange scheme's. Thus
not helping at all with google.

On the contrary, this method proves to be quite handy when you got to list any affiliate link or a paid service link... Then in that case, visitors can easily replace the affiliate id or the tracking code usually present in the url..

Would have been great help if they had got the time to release two version, one with link redirection and one straight

Currently there is nothing available with Xoops, But Marcan is planning a new development based on the XOOPS topsites link on the RHS panal here. This is a good third party script that is specialised for link indexing.

You are right in your assessment though. Google states in its own info pages the importance of link popularity.

Xoops has some 20,000 members PLUS. some possibilities here then!!

As a temporary solution, you could use a single page module, and hard code the links yourself. Efficent, no. Search engine friendly, definately. You end up with a url likehttp://www.mysite.com/modules/mylinks/index.php

Just another addition here ... Link popularity is good, but relevant link poularity is better. This is partly why dedicated links scripts use categories. To share a similar range of keywords with say, 1000 other sites and all those sites are interlinked is more likely to produce a higher rating with link popularity.
