Hi,

I am not sure what errors exactly you receive but I you can check if the changes in include/common.php may have something to do with it...

Somewhere around line 250 some changes occured in the definition of $url_arr and $xoopsModule. In the upgrade from 2.0.7 to 2.0.7.1 you can find an analysis of changes.

Regards,

Martijn

I tried to get the shorturl hack to work with 2.0.7 with no luck for me. I settled for just the Page Title Hack which provides article title and/or category on the page titles for news, mylinks, booklists, (mydownloads if I used it) and xoopsheadline. That is a bit of an improvement as far as Search Engine Optimization, and more importantly the search results have some detail to them.

Short URLs would be nice though.

shortURl are not just nice, they are essential in a commercial website.

Surely someone with some knowledge of the module can assist to get it going for latest release of xoops.

cheers,

Simon

I'm desperate for this functionality - is there any chance this might get added to the core any time soon?

I'd love to install it but based on the issues reported here and the number of other modules I use I'd be concerned to try it.

please, please can we either add it to the core (which i know is a big deal) or work to ensure compatibility with as many modules as poss (which I'm sure is being done)

Andrew

I also tried to install the shorturl-hack. This is the error I get on my main page now:

Notice [PHP]: Undefined offset: 2 in file include/common.php line 267

This is line 267 of common.php:
$xoopsTpl->display('db:system_siteclosed.html');

Is this something that can be fixed?

By the lack of replies I assume it no one knows how to solve this :(
Too bad, it would have been a nice hack if it worked.

Here's some info:

I tried this on one of my sites and got it to work with News, and another module or two but not with a number of other modules that I also use. Therefore, I got rid of it (much of what I've read here and elsewhere indicates that it has not really helped with search engine positioning anyway - but I suspect that that discussion could lead to a lot of disagreement so I'm staying out of it - just telling you what I think I remember reading). For a while, it sounded like Reynaldo was going to try to get functionality for Short_URLs on a module by module basis - ie you could turn it on or off per module, thereby bypassing any incompatibilty issues. But, it seems that there was not any further through in the development to that end.

However, the excellent site Xoops-Tips.com is using the module and if you click on the link, you'll go to an article there on the use of Short_URLs. There's lots more info and insight into the issue there.

Hope this helps...
