Blocks Bug??

I just installed 2.07 two... no three times (tried both zipped and tared versions) and all three times got the same results.

My System:

Linux box
apache 1.3.31
mysql 4.0.18
php 4.3.4

This is what's happening:

The installations completes fine. The front page afterwards has only the header. No menu on the left (not sure if that's suppose to be there at this point), no main content(as it suppose to be). After logging in through user.php and adding some modules through admin.php, everything seems to work, modules work just fine when path'ed to them, but there is still NO "main menu" (is it suppose to appear at this point?).

Here's what makes me believe that there is a bug somewhere:

When I got into Blocks under System Admin, and try to add a block... After putting some text in, I can press Preview, but the same page just reloads. I can submit and it says that completed successfully, but the block doesn't show up and the block list is still empty...

I looked for 2.0.6 release to try/see if it behaves in the same manner, but looks like it's not available for download. Please advise on where to go from here... or if I can help with troubleshooting/replicating of this issue.

Thank You!!!

Last time I encountered this very same issue, there was a misconfiguration in the MySQL database, specifically the mySQL user didn't have enough rights on the database that XOOPS is using. ALso, check if the mySQL user has write access to the mySQL tmp/ folder (assuming you're running linux).

It was exactly what you describe (no blocks even in system admin), and this is what fixed it. You can probably find the problem is in the mySQL database by turning on mysql-debug in system admin -> general settings -> preferences.

omg i got the blocks!!

You were right, MySQL didn't have permissions to the /tmp folder! This is a fresh box, so not everything's setup perfectly yet...

Thank You for prompt help! I should've known it's a permissions issue... :)
