Understanding xoops.js?

Hey,
I'm a little confused about xoops.js. I have a menu bar that drops down, which is DHTML. I tried inserting a js line, poniting to my own .js file, and it came up with some error.
So I put it in the theme.html (I know bad idea!)
I noticed that throughout the xoops.js, functions were called.
How do I call functions, they all have a starting line, and THEN the JS code.
My JS code is just well, code. I'm a little confused.
How would I go about this and put it in the xoops.js file.
If you want to check it out, it's athttp://www.symbiotic-online.com - and view the source code.

I want to optimise the site, to make it load faster.

Thanks

I was wondering about this too. The Spring Time theme has the line calling the xoops.js commented out. I put it back and bad things happened.

Re: Understanding xoops.js?

Can anyone help? I don't really understand it, but is it, like putting Javascript in JS, by making it under a function, and then calling that function in the theme.html?
if so, how to do you call that specific JS?
and how?

I have a JS menu, and wow. My site is running soooo slow beacause of it. The JS code is long, and the menu is hidden inside the code.
Google listed it as a 50kb size file. That's extreme!
Anyway how to reduce this?

I don't know about the xoops.js (see above) but I know you can do those menus in css and save a lot of code.
