Just create a custom block and paste the adsense html in.

Yes like that! How do I create a custom block? And where do I put it after I create it?

Sorry to be so lost, but I got to start somewhere...

Custom blocks are created in the system admin -> blocks section. Below the list of available blocks, is a form where you can create custom blocks.
