The main page is not displaying correctly on my site using IE, although it appears correctly through Mozilla firefox. Any ideas anyone?

the only changes made were new skins, although the problem already existed before this happened.

Since your other 2 7dana themes are working just fine, I would compare the default theme with 2 other themes.

BlockTitle and BlockContents are two styles you may want to check in the style.css file.
