OK, during install, I am getting the following error:
"Could not connect to the database server"
so I guess I missed something.

I am installing on my local machine just to see the finished product working with a view to use in the near future etc etc

SQL Server: 4.0.20a-nt
Php version: 4.3.7
IIS Version: 5.1

All installed with standard features/settings and running properly (I assume).

I get the "Could not connect to the database server" error after the "confirm database settings" page. My database settings are:

Database Hostname localhost
Database Username bolandl
Database Name xoops123
Table Prefix XOOPS

What have I missed? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Typo.
EDIT: I have XOOPS 2.0.7

I entered both username and password in the previous page, but it is not shown on the confirmation page, where I cut and pasted the info from. Am I correct in assuming that the installation creates the database for you?

you have to create the db, XOOPS adds the tables.

Sorry, I'm new to Xoops, IIS, SQL and PHP. What a combo. How do I do that?

I'm beginning to think that I've messed up the SQL config somewhere...

EDIT: I've been looking through the Stickied Problems with databases thread, and I don't seem to have a myphpsetup page in my wwwroot. The installs of PHP and SQL both claimed to have correctly configured IIS for their presence. The install paths are:

Xoops: c:\inetpub\wwwroot
PHP: c:\php (default)
sql: C:\mySql (default)

OK, I downloaded and installed myphpadmin, and created the database. This means that the sql server is working, because the database was created successfully, yes? I am still getting the error message. I'm stuck again...

Edit: I checked the MySQL GUI admin applet, and only the test database is there. hmmmmmm

Edit: I specified the test database, and to no avail. I am now guessing that I was right in saying that mySQL ain't working properly...

Are you running a firewall ? I got a 'cannot connect to db server' error on my first (locally hosted) install because of that (I can't remember if it was Zone Alarm or the built in firewall in XP).

not sure where you are at right now, but does your data base have a trailing underscore? ie: test_ if so you neeed to make sure your mainfile.php reflects this. the XOOPS install wizard should actually walk you through all this, no?
