ip addresses of users. Where are they?

I noticed there is an ip ban field but I cannot see where the ips are. I have not opened up my XOOPS yet but have registered an extra account to see if it was only the admin account that would not show and this did not show the ip. I need this feature as well as the delete user account so that I can temporary ban minor troublemakers.

Can someone please tell me where the ips are. I have the forum up and I looked at the posts I made as a regular user and they are not there as far as I have been able to tell.

in the database, in xoops_bb_posts

i'm not sure if that data is accessible anywhere in the admin panel

So I will have to go to the cp of my site and look in the file manager at xoops_bb_posts to find the ip addresses? I hope this is not true but if it is I hope that an upgrade is made to where this is not necessary.

no, you would have to use something similar to phpMyAdmin, most hosts have that in the Control Panel

xoops doesn't use a flat-file database (that would be the only way to use a filemanager to view the database, to my knowledge, unless you dumped the sql data to a file.. lol)

best suggestion i have is to find a phpMyAdmin module for XOOPS (thought i saw one awhile back.. search for it in the search block in the upper right of this site), the module should allow you to view the xoops_bb_posts database table

Well, I noticed that when you reply to a news story it shows the ip address. However, it does not in the forums. This is a safety feature that should come standard with the forum. I am not too good with phpMyAdmin. oh well, thanks for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Hi

You could always install a 3rd party program that monitors your site. On my own i have 4 monitors running. One shows page loads, one unique visitors, one number of people online and the other is hidden. All of these are seperate to each other and are accessible by me at all times. They also give me a huge range of feedback about the site visitor. IP banning is a piece of cake with them if the users ip is static as everything is nicely logged.

By the way they are all free .

Take a look at Statcounter below, which is probably all you will need:

interesting, are the stats saved remotely at their site? if so, that would remove alot of site strain on your own site, but also they are then gathering alot of data for free which is probably earning them $$ somehow, hehe

Thanks you all. I will look into all of this. An ip ban module is preferred because third party copanies go out of business sometimes and I would like to have a second option. I run a video gaming website and it picks up a lot of troublemakers.
