Sperating 2 areas in a css

Ok I am currently I am working on a theme and for some reason the whole page table background is attached to the News block text area background. Is there any way to seperate these to so you can have 2 sperate colors in these 2 area's?

Also is there a document that lays out all the different areas that you can change in a CSS?

First question yes you can do different colors. In CSS use different classes and id's. You can assign these in theme.html or the template html you are concerned with.

Second question NO not to my knowledge.

Can you tell me in the HTML what that sections is called?

Yes you class is called item.
You can edit you css file locate the .item entry and add the following background-color: #whatevercoloryouwant.
I have view you source and ediedt the css it works.

I think it will give you the results you want.

You are welcome.

You can view you html source with your browser to identify the areas you are interested in. I use firefox it has a plugin that will let you do a live edit of the css and a color picker to reslove problems like this.
