Using an FTP program you need to upload the folders and files contained in the HTML folder from your XOOPS download to the root of your domain. (not the HTML folder itself, but the folders and files within it)
Do you know how to CHMOD file permissions? If not you need to find out how to do this to install Xoops. I would recommend using the free FTP program called "smartftp" at www.smartftp.com. This site also has instructions on CHMOD etc. During the actual install XOOPS will tell you which files need permissions changed. But you may have an FTP program already which you can use.
Your root is usually in a folder called "public_html" But this depends on how your Host structures your hosting package, your welcome mail normally tells you where your web root is and other details
You need to find out what your FTP user name and password is, and your database server, user name/password, this should be in your welcome mail.
Database server is normally: "localhost"
Database user name is normally the same as your FTP user name
Password is normally the same as your FTP password
Initially you may not have a database created, this depends on your host, sometimes you are given a database with a name and details, sometimes you create your own databases through your control panel. You can let XOOPS create a database during the install, but this depends on whether your host allows you to create your own database? The package you bought should specify these details.
Once you have uploaded all your files, and have the account details you need just type in your web browser:
http://yourdomainname.com
Xoops will automatically run the install
Open another web browser window using this link:
http://wiki.xoops.org/wakka.php?wakka=InstallGuide
This will show you step by step the windows that appear during the install.
