Hey Xoopers

I can find my way around XOOPS structure most of the time. But now I am stuck.

When I go to xoopsrooth/themes/mytheme/ and select theme.html, I make change to this file and put it back where I found it.

Then I visit my website and reload it to see my changes but no changes show up. Everything is as it was before I edited the theme.html.

Try looking at the header bottom-right corner. It will say Register-Login. I have changed Register to Regist in theme.html but as you can see it is not changed.

Could there be something else I must do?

Your help is very much appreciated.

Now I have tried to modify module templates such as modules > mydownloads > templates > mydownloads_index.html

And again my changes do not apply. I have still had the above option (to update theme.html) on. How can these changes take effect?

Clone the default template set first in Sys Admin -> Templates. It is advisable to name your clone after the theme it will be used with. Generate the template HTML files once clone is available.

Then go to the page above and set the new template set as the default template set (see last row in picture above).

HughG's setting is for theme changes (general layout and CSS)
For template changes (i.e. the actual content) you'll need to either do as kahumbu says or if you make changes and then upload them to the server, you'll need to update the module through modules admin.

Alright coolers

It worked out fine. But the process is monotonous. Why didn't you advise me to got to Admin > Templates > and then from my default template edit each module's .html files? Or did you Mithrandir explain that in your post? Its much simpler.

Because there is a difference between Themes and Templates

Themes hold the overall structure, css and block placement and layout, whereas Templates hold the content with tables etc.

Templates are editable through administration menu, themes are not.

Hi,

I'm new to Xoops, templates and php but if I understand the way XOOPS works correctly, then there is an important difference between changing template files using an editor & uploading, and working with the admin/templates option.

Changes made using the admin option are saved in the databank and can only be backed up when the databank is backed up. On the other hand, changes made using an editor & upload are easier to backup and to reuse elsewhere.

Am I right?
