Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

Okay, I love Xoops, but just noticed this problem while checking my site at work.

When I click on a topic link to read a post, my browser sits there and sits there and then loads a blank page. It's a new site and I haven't checked out the problem fully at home on my PC. I'm using the default forum module that ships with XOOPS 2.0.6. I just noticed the problem on the macs at work. I've checked it on two systems. One was running OS X 10.2.8 the other OS X 10.3.2.

I got the same glitch using IE 5.2.3, Netscape 7.1 and Safari 1.2(v125). I dunno if it's a Mac thing or a firewall issue. Can some of you please check out my forums section and see if you get the same glitch in the test forum? Any ideas what's causing this?

Thanks,
Tocpe

Re: Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

No blank page for me, but I don't see the actual post text. Here's a screenshot. I have Mac OS X 10.3.2 with Safari 125.

The first thing to do whenever encountering a blank page is to turn on PHP debugging and see what warnings you get on that page.

I'm guessing there's something wrong with the template for displaying post text. Have you modified your newbb templates?

Re: Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

I've been playing with the site trying to figure out what's causing the problem (haven't messed with any settings, just trying figure out when the prob occurs). And it appears that's the non-registered user gets a page but the thread is blank like your screenshot show. But if an admin or registered user accesses a link they get a completely blank page.

I haven't messed with the template for displaying post text. At least I don't think I have, I modified the CSS files for theXoops theme. Is that what you're refering to?

The PHP debugging is in the XOOPS admin settings? Or is it a server thing?

Re: Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

Okay I turned on the PHP debugging (sorry, XOOPS is still new to me. :)) and this is what I got:

Fatal error: Cannot pass parameter 4 by reference in /usr/home/deepwat/public_html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php on line 256

ummm, what does that mean in plain English? :)

Re: Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

The line 256 shows the following function call:
$postsArray = ForumPosts::getAllPosts($topic_id, "ASC", $total_posts, 0);

and when I take a look at call.forumposts.php the function looks the following:
function getAllPosts($topic_id, $order="ASC", $perpage=0, $start=0){

nothing special with it, and no reference passing

Re: Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

Anybody have any ideas? Should I reinstall the forum module?

Re: Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

Download a fresh copy of the latest version of XOOPS, then take the /modules/newbb directory from that one and replace yours. Maybe that will work.

Re: Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

Maybe you upload the forum files and try again. (Maybe one is corrupt?).

To test the file/directory integrity you could also use my checker module which is available in the download area.

Re: Mac user getting blank pages on loading a thread

yeah, it looked like one of the files was corrupted...hmmm I wonder how that happened? Any ideas?

So I did like you guys suggested d/l'd the latest version, and overwrote the newbb/forum files and it looks okay now!

Thanks for the help guys!
