I have been trying to use a new theme that i downloaded. Every time i i set it as default and all that, i go to my homepage and get nothing at all. A total blank page! I haven't found a post yet that tells how to fix this. I may just be typing the wrong words in! Any ideas on how to curd this issue?

Did your previous theme work ok? Are you able to get back to your old theme and access admin?

Not really enough info, have a look at the wiki link Here for troubleshooting blank pages

This page will explain what info you need to post. and how to debug.

Sounds like its theme related though. A link to your site would be also useful.

regards

Ok, if you go to blocks and activate the "Themes" block, and then go to groups and make sure anon users can access this block.

Then go to general preferences and make the problem theme, and your default theme selectable, that will allow us to have a look.

Did you make any alterations to the theme? Also check that the file structure you uploaded is correct, you can compare it with the others.

Try clearing out your templates_c folder, this is the cache (leave index.html intact in this folder)

Also, if you switch on php debug in general preferences and paste the results here this would help, perhaps you can do that later if we can't detect any obvious reasons for the problem.

regards

Well, it seems that i am having problems getting my themes to show up in the themes block. I have done all the steps.

I tried to clear out the tmeplate_c dir and i couldn't get anything to show up on my homesite with the working default. I am not sure i that was the thing to do. I had a backup so it is working again.

I am a little upset that some things arn't working right. I did what you suggested and nothing really worked. I will turn on php debug.

it appears that i have some errors. Any of them look like the culprit? maybe this is why i can't get some custom blocks working also.

Warning: Smarty error: problem writing temporary file '/var/www/html/templates_c/4015a0b421f05' in /var/www/html/class/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1042

Warning: unable to create file /var/www/html/templates_c/db%3Asystem_block_themes.html because Permission denied in /var/www/html/class/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1575

Warning: Failed opening '/var/www/html/templates_c/db%3Asystem_block_themes.html' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /var/www/html/class/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1164

I get these errors in the themes block and my other two custom blocks.

It is a permissions problem. Did you not clear out your cache and leave index.html? Try that, The cache only stores temp snapshot files, somtimes what you see only comes from the cache, and files are not delivered in real time, but from the past..

Edit:

And if you chmod the cache/, templates_c/ and uploads/ folders to 777, and all the files within these folders to 666, hopefully its not another problem, sorry you are having a time of it..
