Template system help please...!!

Guys n gals,

Can anyone give me any pointers on template programming in xoops, or perhaps direct me towards a howto on the subject?

Specifically I am trying to loop over rows in a 2d array alternating table row colours each time. I've found the relavent exampleks on the smarty site but the syntax seems to be slightly different in XOOPS and I'm struggling to find any docs on the subject.

Smarty tags in XOOPS is

<{ code goes here }>

not just { code }

the only change of syntax I know of is that XOOPS smarty uses <{smartycode}> and not {smartycode}.
