How do I safely reinstall XOOPS over the existing one while retaining all of my old databass info?

It will be helpful if you tell us what platform you are using etc. etc.
ie.do you use mysqlfront? or phpmyadmin? etc.

linux/apache/php version 4.3.2/ MySQL 4.0.15standard with access to phpmyadmin
