At the moment there are the scripts from post #8.
You should try them with phpMyAdmin and report problems.

Yes, the install of NewBB comes with one example category, forum, thread and post.

You have to delete these before starting the conversion.

migrate yes, but only shows the categories but not the messages

Did you go through all the permissions for the categories (/modules/newbb/admin/admin_permissions.php?skipValidationJS=0&op=category) and fora (/modules/newbb/admin/admin_permissions.php?skipValidationJS=0&op=access and /modules/newbb/admin/admin_permissions.php?skipValidationJS=0&op=view)?

yes all permissions (cbb 3.08)

also use the script for version 4.02 cbb, and I can see all the correct messages, but they are all "anonymous"

Should that mean that field uid of xoops_bb_posts is not filled in?
