If your ftp client supports it us auto. Most files will require binary transfer. Could be why no image, images definitely require binary transfer. I would suggest doing a search for smartFTP a very good free program for this ourpose.

That's what I use, but I didn't have it on auto. Something I had been working on earlier required ASCII and smartftp insisted on uploading it as binary. I'll try auto and see if it takes care of my problem.

Hey meherenow9,
can you double check the permissions? It sounds like the "webserver" can't traverse the directories. In my limited experience I have found that giving www:www ownership to the directories to be helpful.
My site uses 770 permissions for /uploads & /templates_c & /cache. The files are set to 644 with the exception of the security module changes and the mainfile.php which is 444.

Also, is debugging turned on? If so are you seeing any php errors?

EDIT: all other directories on my server are 750 permissions.

Uploading the files using auto instead of ASCII fixed the problem! Thanks!
