I have a site made with XOOPS that is past its use by date, but I don't want to lose the old content when I build a new one.

Is there a way to archive the site; leave it up in its own subdirectory, allowing people to 'llok but don't touch' - meaning stop people from posting in forums, comments etc?

Well it should be possible by breaking some stuff.

For example (Newbb) you could edit the reply.php (around lines 57-93 for XOOPS 2.0.6) and break stuff by changing the accesscontrol and always returning the user. But this will give them the message that they don´t have the right to write in it. If you wan´t to tell them the reason more coding would be required but thats something i can´t tell you anything about.

For the comments this might be possible in a similar way if you wan´t them still shown otherwise you could turn them off.

Leaving whatever else modules you got installed on that site. Sorry for being not more helpfull but i am not in php coding.

Thanks Bender; neither am I I'm afraid. Be great to have a switch like 'allow posting/disallow posting' globally - but that's asking for too much. Be a great option when a site is being updated or something - kinda 'look but don;t touch.'

Does anyone have a clue how I could globally stop comments and forum posting?

Could you not simply set module permissions to anonomous but set content adding permissions per module to webmaster only.....

I haven't tried this but sort of makes sence to me.....

Comments can be disabled in the control panel without losing pre-existing comments.

Hope that helps with the ideas
