does anyone know what this feature is useful for when you turn it on from the admin page? or have some examples.

I am trying to use the XOOPS session management system to store some more session variables but this doesnt seem to be working, i tried putting
$HTTP_SESSION_VARS['siteid'] = '1';
on my code but when i check in the session table in the database its not showing up. anyone knows what i should do?
