Perhaps, a bit more information from you would help others to figure out what problems you are having. Such XOOPS version and any information would relevant.

Try to turn the debug on
System Admin->Preferences->General Settings
find the debug mode and try each of the mode and see what error messages you are getting.

Thanks. I am using 2.0.6

I turned the debug on.

The news module doesn't show at all.

The sections module shows the following error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/creating/public_html/modules/count/blocks/b_count.php on line 2
Notice [PHP]: Use of undefined constant _MI_COUNT_DESC - assumed '_MI_COUNT_DESC' in file modules/count/xoops_version.php line 23
Notice [PHP]: Use of undefined constant _FC_BLOCK_TITLE - assumed '_FC_BLOCK_TITLE' in file modules/cjaycontent/blocks/cjaycontent.php line 34

I tried reinstalling using the same database but still no go.

In the worst case I may have to do a complete reinstall. If I do can I import articles, etc., from the existing database?

Kris

You might have problems with count module.

If you have phpmyadmin, you might be able to export the articles table and then import it back.

You may want to take a look at this WIKI
FAQMoving
it also applies to re-installation.

If you do want re-install, you may want install the 2.0.7 version as it has several security fixes.
