I thought that tjnemez over at http://mindhealth.ca/ and http://www.dcdezines.ca/ had dome some work on this. BUt, I just checked out the former of the two sites and didn't see it at all. But, you may just want to check it out. Whether or not tjnemez was doing anything like this, you can check out this link.

We are checking out some possibilities for extensive PDF format support in the core.

I have got PDF conversion of news articles to work with a class and also with a PDML format so yes, it is possible, but I personally have an aversion towards putting things in modules, which should go in the core.

Lots of things on the schedule, not enough time... eternal curse, it seems.
