I too got the blank screen after a fresh install.
OS = debian woody Linux
local server on LAN, root access
Apache 1.3
PHP 4
MYSQL 4.018

~/html/index.php yields the following page source:


php, apache, MySQL are all working

I tried:
different 2.07 files from different servers.
changed the check_path param
checked the permissions as described in the other threads

any advice much appreciated...

This is what you get when you click view source in your browser not what you actually get when opening the file from the webspace right? (like ftp - view file)

Did you check the wiki for this? (esp. turning on debugging)

Thanks for the wiki URL - didn't know about THAT.
I was not turning on debugging correctly.
Once turned on, it revealed the problem to be a chmod 666 instead of 777 on the templates directory.

suggestions:
offer turn-on-debugging check box in install screen.
provide URLs of wiki and forum in the release notes.
Otherwise install was very well organized.

Yeah, I've had the same idea, but never got around to doing it. Will strongly consider it in the future
