I run http://www.defencetalk.com military/defence website. We have a military gallery, forum and news page. We are thinking about adding new section to our website and I am searching for just the right CMS to the job.

It will contain world military equipment, its information such as specs, small intro in very very categorized and organized fashion.

It will be organized like this:

Weapon Systems
>>Air Forces
>>>>Fighters (List of fighter jet from around the world)
>>>>>F16 < (link, once clicked will display F16's info.
>Bombers
>Land Forces
>Tanks
>Abrams
>Artillery
>Etc.
>Naval Forces
>Other

As you can see its all on one page and doesnt look that good either.

It would be great if its linked up with phpbb forum and coppermine gallery but its not a requirement. Certain users should be able to add info as well. Would XOOPS do this type of content management? If not, would someone please recommend a script that would. It doesn't have to be fancy, with modules, forums, etc.

You should be able to get XOOPS to do this without too much hassle. There is also a phpbb and coppermine (xcgallery) port for XOOPS too. Howver, unless you specifically have a requirement for phpbb, then I would have a look at Predators work with newbb 2.
