following is the error i receive after turning the debug on....

this is the only thing that shows up on the page....

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /*********/********/public_html/xoops/class/smarty/plugins/resource.db.php on line 14

not sure what to do, install was a breeze, until this, going to the index.php

First step is to check the contents of the mainfile.php (the one on the webserver, since it contains your specific database details)

Next step is to try and connect to the database with the same details. If you cannot, contact your host to hear if they are suffering from problems with their database server(s).

guess i should first ask.....

i have a subdomain set up xoops.thegingierchs.net

the the install dir is actually thegingerichs.net/xoops/

could this be a problem?

i do have it set through cpanel as a subdomain...of the domain, thegingerichs.net, during the install, the XOOPS installer picked up it to be xoops.thegingerichs.net....

hope this might clarify some...

Since you have been able to include the database files, which are actively trying to connect to the database, your server paths and url should be ok.

The problem lies with the database - which you supply an URL for (localhost or mydb.hostname.com are normal ones here). The domain you install XOOPS on should not matter here.

have just deleted the original db info to "xoops" and added to an existing dbase that was function for another site.....(chat program).....

and flew through the installer......went to site following installation and the same error and blank page persists...

chat program functions normally and fine....

Right. I have been wrong. This is not a database issue, but a Smarty issue.

Which version of XOOPS are you installing?

xoops-2.0.6.zip

that is the package i downloaded....from sourceforge.net the unc server....

i seemed to have fixed it, specifically not sure how....

i downloaded the gz.tar version.....

set permissions as per another article here on the forum.....just used the search function for permissions.....

the re'upped from the recently downloaded gz.tar version the "cache, class, images, include, kernel" dirs....

and no more white pages.....got the log in and voila.....playing around....
