Is there a way to upload an image along with a article posting without having to FTP or reference the image? YOu know by using browse to attached the image?

Sure! Try the image manager that comes with xoops.

Administration > System Admin > Image Manager

You can define categories there and upload images through this interface or with the image manager button in every textarea field.
