I'm having a module written for automatically adding downloads in xoops... and the coder is asking what PID stands for... how can he know what pid to select? is it parent id and ifso, how to know what the structure is?

Yes, pid is parent id. All categories with a certain pid are sub-categories to the category with the pid as cid (that is, all categories with pid = 6 are subcategores to the category with cid = 6)
