n00b here

I ran into the following problem when installing XOOPS 2.0.6 on Red Hat w/ PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.15-standard.

Through every step of the installation process, I was successful (green lights), but when it finished and I attempted to view the home page, I got only a blank page.

I checked the WIKI (after reading about similar problems in the forum), and I verified that:

1) cache, template_c, upload directories and mainfile.php are writable (chmod 766).

2) register_globals = on

3) themes were not corrupted ( I reuploaded and checked them)

4) I don't have another CMS (phpnuke or postnuke) installed on this server

Can anyone please help? I installed XOOPS on a different server (different host) yesterday and had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I was really happy with the ease of installation.

now if i could just get this installation working...

Not only the theme file could be corrupted, but also any other file on your website.
(Also there could be something wrong with the database, as slate might have it yesterday.)

I would recommend to download my checker module.
Follow the instructions on the download page.
(It's just download, unpack, upload to the right directory)
The checkit.php script checks the directory structure and the files for correct CRC. On a fresh install only the mainfile.php should have a wrong CRC.

You need the Checker Module and the Checker XML Files for XOOPS 2.0.6

I checked the HTML files, and they do exist. They all contain
<script>history.go(-1);script>
- I checked the same files in my successful installation of XOOPS on my other server, and they were the same.

Since it said Wrong CRC for mainfile.php, I checked that too. I don't want to post it's contents, but it had definitions for all of the entries I made during the XOOPS installation process, and the settings were all correct.

This is pretty perplexing. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks for the help!

A wrong CRC for mainfile.php is ok.
And the index.html doesn't matter.
Also the missing files in uploads doesn't lead to a blank page .

Turn on PHP debug:

..../modules/checker/checkit.php?debug=1&check=no

You should see then warning and error messages, which could give us more information.

I had exactly the same problem running on Fedora Core and I found that the problem was caused by ftp'ing the files using auto ascii mode. It corrupted some files.
I ftp'd the tarball and untared it on the server.
Fixed mine instantly...
After reinstalling of course.
:)

I tried ..../modules/checker/checkit.php?debug=1&check=no - no PHP errors or warnings at all.

The site is hosted in a shared hosting environment, so I don't have SSH access.

Does anyone have any idea what else could be wrong?
