I have tried and tried, but cannot connect to the database. I have control of the server, and all functions, but am not able to connect. Help?

Can you connect to the database using phpMyAdmin or the shell MySQL command?

Yes, I can, and I have I think, not logged in right now MySQL 3.52 installed.

Any thoughts?

Are the connection parameters in your phpMyAdmin config.inc.php file the same as those in your XOOPS mainfile.php file?

By the way, when you say you can't connect, what's the exact symptom/error-message?

Hey Dave_L again you have been a little faster then me

I would have written the same, except:

mainfile.php not main.php in XOOPS

Where should the the config.inc.php file be?

The error says that the program cannot connect to the database.

In the directory where phpMyAdmin is installed.

I'm also having a database connection problem, and am totally baffled at this point as to what could be causing it. Here's the PHP error message:

"PHP Fatal error: Unable to connect to database in /class/database/databasefactory.php on line 34"

The settings in my XOOPS mainfile.php file are exactly the same as those in my phpMyAdmin config.inc.php file, and I have no problem connecting in phpMyAdmin. I've tried both cutting/pasting the settings directly from my server account info page and retyping everything.

Any thoughts about where to turn next would be *much* appreciated!

Forgot to mention - the site was designed on my development server, and it runs with no problem there. I did the chmod thing on the cache, templates_c, and uploads folders, FTPed the whole thing to my webhosting server, then changed the path and database settings in mainfile.php.

Both my development server and my webhost's server are running Apache. The path settings are fine - the production installation gets as far as the redirect to /modules/news before going to the blank screen. I've tried all the fixes for blank screen problems in the Wiki that seemed like they could be even remotely relevant.
