I want to install XOOPS on one machine by connecting it to the existing data base server(mysql). I wonder that whether it's possible to do that?

I not really sure what you are asking here.... however, let me just give some pointers that my help.

If you have an existing database, even one with tables and data for other scripts, there should be no problem installing XOOPS and associated modules.

The one real issue is that db tables never share the same prefixes. There are other issues of backup and restore, ie, you may be forced to restore a whole database, because one of your other scripts crashes. This may be inconvenient if XOOPS becomes your primary site.
